The media reported that President Habibie ordered the law
enforcing apparatus to investigate the Bank Bali scandal
thoroughly. Thumbs up for his stance! The police then started
their investigation and detained a number of civilians.

I am unsure as to whether the duty of a president is complete
with the issuance of an order. Is there a need for the president
to know whether his order has been executed or not?

However, the most surprising aspect to this case comes after
the police have done their part, and the next step lies with the
President. In my opinion, the President has not done his job as
he should have.

He should give his approval to the police to summon Setya
Novanto, who is a member of the House of Representatives. As it
stands now, the investigation into the Bank Bali scandal cannot
be concluded in line with the President's initial order.

Was that order simply a throwaway joke in a comedy show?
