Habibie dances high in the sky

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Golkar Party supporters wound up their campaign flying large kites emblazoned with an image of President B.J. Habibie, the party's presidential hopeful from Sulawesi.

Those who did not have an eye for the dancing kites still had a chance to have a good time dancing the day away to live blaring dangdut music at Abadi Talise soccer field in the Palu Bay.

The propaganda kites also carried the party's symbol, a banyan tree, and its number on the ballot sheet, 33, in the background.

Approximately 5,000 people enjoyed the campaign, which was dominated by entertainers instead of the usual politicians who bore audiences with their election promises.

Every now and then party supporters yelled: "Golkar wins, Habibie my president", repeating the words of the master of ceremonies on stage, Antara reported.

"I'm not mad about Golkar," said Bambang, whose political loyalty goes to another party. "I'm here to enjoy the kites."
