The movement of people travelling home using public transport for Eid 2026 continues to increase. Up to H-4 before Idulfitri, the number of passengers recorded reached 6,251,806 people.

Data from the Ministry of Transportation shows that this figure rose 10.98% compared to the same period in 2025, which totalled 5,633,141 people.

Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Information at the Ministry of Transportation, Ernita Titis Dewi, stated that the surge in passengers occurred from H-8 to H-4, as the public began their journeys home earlier.

“This upward trend indicates that the public has started travelling home earlier, taking advantage of the work-from-anywhere (WFA) policy and collective leave,” Titis said in an official statement on Wednesday (18/3/2026).

Subsequently, air transport grew 8.14% to 1,424,872 passengers, sea transport rose 10.50% to 527,535 passengers, and ferry transport increased 11.27% to 1,511,072 passengers.

Meanwhile, land transport recorded a 6.41% rise with a total of 924,545 passengers.

The Ministry of Transportation is also paying attention to several congestion points, particularly at Gilimanuk Port and I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, which will be closed during the Nyepi holiday celebrations.

In addition, the on-time performance (OTP) for sea transport reached 95.82%, ferries 95.09%, and road transport 71.92%.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Transportation is also monitoring potential weather and geological disruptions. On H-4, volcanic ash dispersion from Mount Ibu and Mount Semeru was observed, which temporarily affected several flight routes.

The Ministry of Transportation urges the public to continue monitoring official information from transport operators and to follow instructions from officers for smooth travel.
