Transport Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi has officially implemented a one-way traffic engineering scheme, or national one-way, on the Trans-Java Toll Road on Wednesday afternoon (18/3). This step was taken as a rapid government response to the massive surge in vehicle volume on H-3 Lebaran 2026.

The flag-raising ceremony marking the start of the one-way scheme was conducted directly by the Minister at KM 70 of the Cikampek Main Toll Gate (Cikatama), West Java. The engineering spans hundreds of kilometres to KM 414 at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Semarang, Central Java.

The Minister emphasised that the national one-way implementation, starting at 13.25 WIB, represents the state’s presence to ensure smooth mudik traffic flow.

“This is a form of the state’s presence to ensure the best service for the public undertaking mudik,” said Dudy, quoted from Antara on Wednesday (18/3).

Previously, police and the Ministry of Transport had only implemented one-way partially from KM 70 to KM 263 since Tuesday (17/3). However, observing the trend of continuously increasing vehicle volume flowing from Jakarta towards Central Java, authorities decided to extend the coverage to Semarang.

Field observations showed that police officers had sterilised the right lane (Jakarta direction) before diverting the mudik traffic flow. Three police patrol vehicles escorted the front line to ensure the lane was completely safe from oncoming vehicles.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi urged drivers not to be lulled by the empty road conditions due to the one-way scheme. Vehicle speeds must remain controlled to avoid fatal accidents on the unrestricted highway.

In addition to inaugurating the traffic engineering, the Minister greeted and distributed packages to mudik travellers at the front of the queue. He asked the public to always comply with instructions from officers on the ground so that the vision of safe and secure mudik can be achieved.

As of this report, traffic flow from Cikampek Main Toll Gate towards the east was monitored as busy but smooth. Drivers are advised to ensure sufficient e-toll balance and optimal physical condition before undertaking the long journey through this national one-way route.

Vehicle traffic over 24 hours, from 17 March 2026 at 06.00 WIB to 18 March 2026 at 06.00 WIB, showed a significant increase entering Central Java.

As many as 21,329 vehicles from the Jakarta direction entered the Kalikangkung Toll Gate on H-4 Lebaran, prompting Jasa Marga to open toll gates gradually to ease congestion.

On Monday (16/3), the number of mudik travellers entering Central Java via the Trans-Java Toll Road continued to rise since Sunday (15/3), averaging 1,400-1,900 vehicles entering Semarang city.

Police ended the one-way scheme from Kalikangkung Toll Gate, Semarang, towards the west in Central Java starting Sunday morning (30/3).

The number of vehicles entering Central Java through Kalikangkung Toll Gate from 28 March 2025 at 05.59 WIB to 11.59 WIB totalled 19,978 vehicles.
