GWM Tank 500 Black Warrior Available Exclusively in 4x4 Variant

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Inchcape GWM Indonesia has officially launched the Tank 500 Black Warrior 4x4 in the Indonesian market. Unlike the regular model which offers multiple trim levels, this special edition is available exclusively in the four-wheel-drive (4x4) variant.

Francisca Risa Setyanti, Product Intelligence Manager at Inchcape GWM Indonesia, said the decision aligns with the Black Warrior’s positioning as an exclusive model.

“This decision aligns with our concept of making the Black Warrior an exclusive variant. Therefore, we are bringing in the Black Warrior only in the top-tier 4x4 variant,” said Francisca in Depok, West Java, on Monday (25 May 2026).

Senior PR Manager at Inchcape Indonesia, Thio Adynata, explained that according to Gaikindo (Indonesian Automotive Industry Association) wholesale data, the 4x4 variant contributes significantly to overall Tank 500 sales.

“When looking at the figures from Gaikindo’s wholesale data, comparing the Tank 500’s trim levels – hybrid, 4x2, and 4x4 – it turns out Indonesian consumers have deep pockets,” said Thio.

According to him, the 4x4 variant accounts for approximately 21% of the Tank 500’s total sales in Indonesia. This figure indicates that premium SUV consumers in the country still favour four-wheel-drive models.

“The 4x4 variant is a major contributor to overall GWM Tank 500 sales, with a positive reception. This likely explains why the 4x4 variant is particularly popular among consumers,” Thio added.

The interior remains unchanged from the standard model. The premium SUV retains leather seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a dual-display setup with a 14.6-inch central screen.

Under the bonnet, the Tank 500 Black Warrior is powered by a 2.4-litre diesel engine producing 184 PS and a maximum torque of 480 Nm, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The official price of the GWM Tank 500 Black Warrior Edition will be announced at GIIAS 2026.
