Gus Yahya Ready to Stand Again as PBNU Chairman Candidate

Ketua Umum Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, known as Gus Yahya, has declared his readiness to stand again as a candidate for chairman of Indonesia’s largest Islamic organisation. The statement was made upon his arrival at the venue for the 2026 Alim Ulama National Conference (Munas) and Grand Conference (Konbes) of NU, at the Al Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School in Kediri, East Java, on Saturday (20/6). “I am ready, God willing I am ready,” said Gus Yahya. Gus Yahya stressed that his readiness was not a sudden decision. He said that from the outset, he had expressed his intention to complete a number of organisational agendas he considered still unfinished. “Because I have conveyed from the beginning that I am applying to work on a number of agendas. These agendas are important,” he said. Without providing details, Gus Yahya requested the opportunity to complete these PBNU agendas in the next term. “Now, to complete these agendas, I am asking to be given the opportunity,” he said. The Alim Ulama National Conference and Nahdlatul Ulama Grand Conference 2026 was opened and held at the Al-Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School in Kediri, East Java, from 20 to 22 June 2026. The forum is scheduled to close at the Syaichona Cholil Islamic Boarding School in Bangkalan, Madura, on 23 June 2026, if President Prabowo Subianto attends.
