Gus Yahya: Prabowo Accepted by All Sides, Capable of Mediating Conflicts

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Yahya Cholil Staquf, alias Gus Yahya, the chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), assessed that President Prabowo Subianto is a figure who can be accepted by all sides, and thus able to act as a mediator in the Middle East conflict.

‘President Prabowo Subianto is an actor accepted by all sides, giving him the opportunity to act as a kind of communication mediator among the parties involved,’ Gus Yahya said after attending a gathering of the President with ulama and leaders of Islamic organisations at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Friday.

In the gathering, he said, the President affirmed his commitment to do whatever is necessary to contribute to helping create peace and a resolution to the conflict.

Moreover, he added, the Middle East conflict could directly affect domestic interests of the homeland.

‘What is clear is that the President has made clear his commitment to do anything to contribute,’ he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto shared a moment of breaking fast with Rais Aam of PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Prof. Haedar Nashir, and the Chairman of MUI KH Anwar Iskandar at the Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, Thursday.

In a corner of a room at Istana Merdeka, as shared by the official social media account @prabowo, President Prabowo enjoyed takjil and dates during the iftar with Rais Aam of PBNU, the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, and the Chairman of MUI at a small round table sufficient for four.

President Prabowo sat between the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Board Prof. Haedar Nashir on his right and the Chairman of MUI KH Anwar Iskandar on his left, while Rais Aam of PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar sat opposite the President.
