Gus Yahya explains AHWA candidate nomination mechanism at NU Congress
Jombang (ANTARA) - Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf explained the mechanism for nominating Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (AHWA) candidates to participants of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress in Jombang, East Java, on Wednesday.
Yahya said that Nahdlatul Ulama regional administrators (PWNU), branch administrators (PCNU), and special branch administrators (PCINU) may prepare AHWA candidate nomination letters at the registration area before completing registration.
“This registration area is already sterile. PWNU, PCNU, and PCINU can prepare AHWA candidate nomination letters here, but they must still be signed by the Rais and Katib and stamped,” Yahya said.
He stressed that nomination letters that have fulfilled the administrative requirements must be immediately submitted to the committee in a sealed envelope and then placed into the box provided.
“Then it is directly placed into the ballot box in a sealed envelope,” he said.
In addition to monitoring the AHWA nomination mechanism, Yahya completed participant registration for the 35th NU Congress at the K.H. Jamaluddin Ahmad Center Hall, Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, accompanied by PBNU Deputy Chairman Amin Said Husni.
After registration, Yahya inspected several locations that will be used during the 35th NU Congress.
He also gave direction to the Chairman of the Local Committee of the 35th NU Congress, K.H. Abdurrozaq Sholeh or Gus Rozaq, along with committee members and guest liaisons.
“All of you represent not only PBNU, but the Jam’iyah Nahdlatul Ulama, and at the same time all of you represent Kiai Abdul Wahab Chasbullah as the host of this Congress. Therefore, this service is truly a service of extraordinary value,” he said.
“So in every moment of our presence in the midst of this Congress, let us not forget that here together with us are Mbah Hasbullah, Mbah Syihah, Mbah Wahab, and the other masyaikh of Tambakberas, Mbah Hamid, Mbah Fattah, and others,” he said.
He also quoted the teachings of Hadratussyekh K.H. Hasyim Asy’ari on the importance of maintaining the integrity and objectives of the organisation during the congress.
“Because this is a jam’iyatu adlin wa aman wa ishlahin wa ihsan. This is a jam’iyah that improves. Therefore, there must not be even the slightest action that has the potential to cause damage, because this is a jam’iyah that improves,” he stressed.
The 35th NU Congress is taking place at the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, East Java, from 27 to 31 August 2026.
The opening of the congress is scheduled for Thursday (27/8) at 15.00 WIB at Untung Suropati Field, Tambakberas, and is scheduled to be attended by President Prabowo Subianto.
