Gus Yahya announces PBNU Congress for early August 2026
Bangkalan (ANTARA) - The General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU), KH Yahya Cholil Staquf (Gus Yahya), has announced that the NU National Congress (Muktamar) will be held in early August, specifically from 1 to 5 August 2026.
“However, the location for this congress has not yet been determined; it will be decided later at a venue that is mutually agreed upon,” he stated during the closing ceremony of the National Consultative Assembly of Ulama and the NU Grand Conference (Konbes) 2026 at the Syaichona Muhammad Cholil Islamic Institute (IAI) in Bangkalan, East Java, on Tuesday.
He expressed his hope that this major NU agenda would proceed smoothly and that NU would remain steadfast in protecting the nation and the state.
“This National Consultative Assembly of Ulama and the NU Grand Conference serve as strategic milestones leading towards the 35th NU National Congress,” he said.
Gus Yahya also noted that the presence of President Prabowo Subianto at the closing of the assembly and conference added to the significance of the completed proceedings.
“We express our infinite gratitude for the President’s presence at the 2026 NU Ulama National Consultative Assembly. This completes our joy after successfully finishing all the tasks related to the implementation of the assembly and conference,” he said.
“May NU continue to be present and stand firm in preserving and protecting the nation we love,” he added.
The closing ceremony of the 2026 NU Ulama National Consultative Assembly and Grand Conference was attended by President Prabowo Subianto, the Chairman of the MPR RI Ahmad Muzani, the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the Coordinating Minister for Food Security Zulkifli Hasan, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, and the Minister of ATR/BPN Nusron Wahid.
Also in attendance were the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, the Chief of National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Commander of the TNI Agus Subianto, and the Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
Also present were the Rais Aam of PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar, the Deputy Rais Aam of PBNU KH Anwar Iskandar, Katib Aam KH Akhmad Said Asrori, and the Syuriyah members of PBNU.
Furthermore, the Deputy General Chairman KH Zulfa Mustofa, Secretary General H Saifullah Yusuf, General Treasurer H Gudfan Arif, and the Tanfidziyah members of PBNU were present. Representatives from NU Regional Boards across Indonesia, NU Branch Boards in East Java, and various agencies and autonomous bodies from the central to the branch levels also attended the event.
