Gus Yahya announces PBNU Congress for early August 2026
Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Chairman KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, known as Gus Yahya, has announced that the NU Congress will be held from 1 to 5 August 2026. However, the location for the congress has not yet been determined and will be decided later at a mutually agreed-upon venue, he said during the closing ceremony of the 2026 NU National Conference of Religious Scholars (Munas Alim Ulama) and Grand Conference (Konbes) at the Syaichona Muhammad Cholil Islamic Institute in Bangkalan, East Java, on Tuesday. He expressed hope that this major NU agenda would proceed smoothly and that NU would remain steadfast in safeguarding the nation and state. Gus Yahya noted that the Munas Alim Ulama and Konbes NU serve as strategic agendas leading up to the 35th NU Congress. He also remarked that the presence of President Prabowo Subianto at the closing ceremony completed the happiness of the event, which has now concluded its deliberations. The closing ceremony was attended by President Prabowo Subianto, MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, and Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid. Also present were Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, TNI Commander Agus Subianto, and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. NU’s supreme advisory council Rais Aam KH Miftachul Akhyar, Deputy Rais Aam KH Anwar Iskandar, Katib Aam KH Akhmad Said Asrori, and other Syuriyah board members attended, alongside Vice Chairman KH Zulfa Mustofa, Secretary General H Saifullah Yusuf, Treasurer General H Gudfan Arif, and Tanfidziyah board members. Representatives from NU regional boards across Indonesia, branch boards throughout East Java, and central to branch-level autonomous bodies and institutions were also present.
