Gus Salam: UN Must Swiftly End the Zionist Israel-US War with Iran
Jakarta, VIVA – The principal of the Mamba’ul Ma’arif Islamic Boarding School in Denanyar, Jombang, East Java, KH Abdussalam Shohib, has called for an end to the Zionist Israel-US war with Iran for the sake of humanity and world peace. “The UN must swiftly end the Zionist Israel-United States war with Iran for the sake of humanity and world peace. Because there is no benefit to be gained from arrogance except destruction,” said the man familiarly known as Gus Salam in his statement on Sunday, 29 March 2026. Gus Salam views the war as involving competition or rivalry over various motives. He notes a similar situation between Russia and Ukraine. “Interests to fulfil desires (lusts), especially those of the leaders, drive attitudes and actions to control, dominate, and weaken others in various ways,” he said. The Deputy Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU) for East Java for the 2018-2023 period stated that the long history of human civilisation has shaped the character of nation-states. From the civilisations of Persia, Judaism, Rome, Greece, Egypt, Babylon, Byzantium, the Mongols, to the Nusantara. Advances in science, technology, culture, and complex changes in social structures have underpinned civilisational progress. However, Gus Salam continued, these advances are often used for ambitions to subjugate others in a segregative manner, categorising them as friends or foes. “Friendships are based on various considerations, from religion, ideology, orientation, to shared strategies and interests. And placing others in the position of competitors (rivals) to becoming enemies that are guarded against, suspected, and disarmed of their capabilities,” he said. On the other hand, he added, the world develops with its normalcy and can reach boiling points elsewhere. Social-political contractions always trigger imbalances leading to clashes and confrontations in war. “Arrogance, greed, and the ambition for power inherent in leadership often cause humanitarian tragedies. And when that happens, the world is forced to seek a new balance for continuity and order,” said Gus Salam. According to Gus Salam, Iran has been underestimated and considered weak due to embargoes and global political pressure for 47 years. However, in reality, Iran has not only survived but has become the fuse of resistance by reviving its national ideology, science, and technology.
