Sleman, Yogyakarta – Kaesang Pangarep, chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), continued his Ramadan safari series by visiting Minggir Islamic Boarding School in Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

During the visit, Kaesang was accompanied by Ahmad Ali, the daily chairman of PSI’s central executive board. Both arrived just before breaking fast and immediately joined the evening prayers with the boarding school’s students and management.

After the congregational prayers, the pesantren’s leader, KH Ahmad Muwafiq, affectionately known as Gus Muwafiq, served his guests traditional Yogyakarta cuisine, namely sate klatak.

“That’s sate klatak without spices, it’s delicious,” said Gus Muwafiq.

Sate klatak is known as a distinctive Yogyakarta delicacy that uses iron rods, typically motorcycle wheel spokes, as skewers for the satay.

Kaesang said he enjoyed the dish. The youngest son of President Joko Widodo even stated that Yogyakarta’s traditional cuisine always whets the appetite.

“Sate klatak with the iron spokes is delicious. There’s no bad food in Yogyakarta,” Kaesang said.

Ahmad Ali expressed similar sentiments. He considered a visit to Yogyakarta incomplete without tasting sate klatak.

“That’s a tradition. If you don’t eat satay when you come here, it means you haven’t really arrived,” Ahmad Ali said.

According to Ahmad Ali, the visit to Minggir Islamic Boarding School was part of PSI’s agenda to establish fellowship with religious leaders during the month of Ramadan.

“Today’s visit to Yogyakarta is part of our series of visits to boarding schools as part of the Ramadan safari, to meet and seek guidance from the kyai,” Ahmad Ali said.

Minggir Islamic Boarding School is an Islamic educational institution located in Minggir, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The pesantren is known as an educational institution that emphasises character development, deepening Islamic knowledge, and fostering a simple lifestyle in the tradition of traditional Islamic boarding schools.
