Gus Ipul Welcomed in Gresik with Four-Language Speeches by People's School Students
Social Affairs Minister of the Republic of Indonesia (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) conducted a working visit to Gresik Regency as part of the ‘Kolaborasi Program Prioritas Presiden’ (Collaboration on Presidential Priority Programmes).
Gus Ipul’s arrival at the Mandala Bhakti Praja Hall in Gresik Regency was welcomed by performances from students of People’s Senior High School (SRMA) 37 Gresik, including choir singing, poetry recitation, and speeches in four languages (English, Arabic, Tagalog, and French).
The students who delivered the speeches were very confident and fluent in conveying their messages in each language, with the silent atmosphere indicating that the audience was captivated by the performance of these People’s School students.
These performances by the People’s School students demonstrate that potential can emerge from anywhere, even from children who have not yet been included in the development process.
“Those who attend People’s School are from decile 1, decile 2 of DTSEN (National Single Socio-Economic Data). No one else,” said Gus Ipul in a written statement on Monday (30/3/2026).
“Now not everyone knows yet, but in the future they will compete for it. Because this People’s School is indeed for special people, extraordinary people, people who have not yet been carried along in the development process,” he continued.
On this occasion, Gus Ipul explained that the People’s School serves as a miniature for poverty alleviation, where Beneficiary Families (KPM) receive comprehensive handling, not only the children getting educational services but their families also receiving other strategic programmes of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
“This People’s School will be extraordinary. In this school, the children go to school, the parents are empowered, their homes are assisted to be more habitable, they receive complete social assistance, get PBI (Premium Assistance Recipients) for the whole family, and of course they receive other presidential strategic programmes,” said Gus Ipul.
Furthermore, Gus Ipul emphasised that the target of the People’s School is for children from poor and extremely poor families in Deciles 1 and 2 of the National Single Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN).
He added that DTSEN is dynamic, with people dying, being born, marrying, and moving places every day. Therefore, this data needs to be updated continuously.
“Don’t consider this data as static,” Gus Ipul added.
In this regard, Gus Ipul invited the Gresik Regency local government, data operators, and social pillars to continue efforts to update the data.
The President, through Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 4 of 2025 on DTSEN, aims to ensure that all Indonesian citizens who should receive social protection can be reached by priority programmes.
“Thus, with this presidential instruction, it is hoped that the data will be single, no more everyone holding their own data, and the data is held by BPS (Statistics Indonesia),” Gus Ipul stressed.
During this event, Gus Ipul also distributed entrepreneurial assistance to 75 parents of SRMA 37 Gresik, with a total value of Rp 391,853,366, symbolically handed over to five student parents.
Meanwhile, Deputy Regent of Gresik Asluchul Alif stated that his side continues to make efforts to align DTSEN, especially for the Decile 1-4 community groups, through ground checks with BPS, so that decile determination matches field conditions.
“Through this Collaboration on Presidential Priority Programmes, we are not only talking about improving individual capacity,” said Alif.
“Not only viewing poverty issues on a micro scale. But also about creating an ecosystem that supports community economic independence,” he concluded.
