Gus Ipul Visits Sigi People's School, Ensures Laptops Are Used for Learning
Indonesia’s Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) visited Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SRMP) 22 in Sigi, Central Sulawesi. Gus Ipul ensured that the laptops at the People’s School are used for students’ learning needs. “Alhamdulillah, we see that all devices have been delivered and can be utilised. From laptops to other equipment needed for learning,” said Gus Ipul in a written statement on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Gus Ipul’s presence at SRMP 22 Sigi was welcomed by a traditional dance performance from the students. Afterwards, Gus Ipul inspected the learning process in the classroom, where students were enthusiastic about learning using laptops, guided by dedicated teachers. “So we hope the learning process can meet expectations, and the children will have greater interest in participating in the teaching and learning process,” stated Gus Ipul. Gus Ipul expressed delight that SRMP 22 Sigi has implemented restrictions on mobile phone use for students, allowing children to read books in the garden or library during their free time. “So I thank the school principal, teachers, other educational staff, dormitory guardians, and caregivers who have guided and accompanied the students at this People’s School,” said Gus Ipul. Furthermore, Gus Ipul explained that his office is continuing to coordinate and collaborate with the Sigi Regency Government regarding the construction of a permanent People’s School. “Yesterday we carried out accelerations, and hopefully this year the construction can begin in Sigi Regency, so these children can move to a permanent building, and secondly, we can accept new students,” revealed Gus Ipul. The People’s School exists to provide opportunities for the most disadvantaged families so their children can receive quality education in a conducive environment. “As of today, there are still quite a few school-age children who are not attending school, have not started school, have dropped out, or are at risk of dropping out, according to data from BPS (Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency),” said Gus Ipul. Therefore, President Prabowo Subianto has called on central and regional government officials to reach out to families not yet included in the development process or the “invisible people,” so their children can contribute to Golden Indonesia 2045 in the future. For information, during this visit, Gus Ipul was accompanied by Sigi Regent Mohamad Rizal Intjenae.
