Gus Ipul Visits KPK After Viral Rp 700,000 Shoes Issue: People's School Must Not Be Corrupted!
Social Minister (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf, alias Gus Ipul, does not want the People’s School programme to be tainted by corruption practices. He stated that the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is already transparent regarding the implementation of procurement of goods and services related to the People’s School.
Gus Ipul made this statement after consulting with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the implementation of procurement of goods and services for 2026. The visit by the PBNU general secretary concerned the viral issue of procuring shoes for People’s School students at Rp 700,000 per item.
In fact, the normal price of shoes is around Rp 150,000 per item. “We want President Jokowi’s strategic programme, especially the organisation of the People’s School, not to be tainted by corruption practices,” said Gus Ipul to reporters at the Red White Building, South Jakarta, on Friday (8/5/2026).
Gus Ipul said that his visit to the KPK is part of efforts to consult and seek input. The aim is for all procurement processes at Kemensos, especially the People’s School programme, to run transparently and accountably.
“I indeed requested time to conduct a visit, consultation, seek advice, and at the same time report on the developments of procurement of goods and services at Kemensos,” said the former mayor of Pasuruan.
