Gus Ipul Targets Completion of Sampang People's School by June
Social Minister of Indonesia Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, inspected the construction of the permanent People’s School in Sejati Village, Camplong District, Sampang Regency, East Java, on Sunday, 10 May 2026. During his visit, Gus Ipul ensured that the construction progress is proceeding according to target and that the school will be ready for teaching and learning activities in the new academic year 2026. “The target is completion by the end of June, then in the second week it can be used for school environment orientation,” said Gus Ipul. Based on the latest data, the progress of the permanent People’s School construction in Sampang as of 10 May 2026 has reached more than 54 percent and continues to increase. For the Madura region, there are currently three pilot People’s School sites in Bangkalan, Pamekasan, and Sumenep Regencies. Meanwhile, permanent building construction is only being carried out in Sampang Regency. “Meanwhile, next year the other three regencies can have permanent buildings built. That is our hope,” he added. Gus Ipul hopes that the permanent People’s School building in Sampang can soon be operational to accommodate new students for the 2026 Academic Year, including students from the other three regencies in Madura that currently still have pilot schools. “We are simulating the selection for People’s School students in the four regencies. Perhaps those already in their respective pilot locations will continue. Meanwhile, for the 2026 Academic Year, the four regencies can be here (Sampang),” he explained. The permanent People’s School in Sampang is projected to accommodate up to 1,000 students from primary school, junior high school, to senior high school levels. Gus Ipul emphasised that the People’s School is intended for the most impoverished families based on the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN). Therefore, the student admission process is carried out through an outreach system, not general registration. “We want in this outreach process there to be no referrals, no collusion, no payments, no what is called KKN. That is not allowed according to the President’s instructions,” he stressed.
