Gus Ipul Swears in 67 Social Affairs Officials, Stresses Integrity and Accurate Data
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, widely known as Gus Ipul, has sworn in 67 functional officials within the Ministry of Social Affairs, emphasising the critical importance of integrity and the use of accurate data in executing the ministry’s programmes. Of the total number of officials appointed, 39 attended the ceremony in person, while the remaining 28 participated online via Zoom.
“I trust that you will carry out your duties to the best of your ability, in accordance with the responsibilities given,” Gus Ipul stated in a written release on Tuesday (4/8/2026). He reminded the newly appointed state apparatus of their strategic positions, noting that the trust placed in them must be answered with real dedication in the field. “Ladies and gentlemen, you have received the honour of holding a position in the Ministry of Social Affairs; please carry it out well,” he said.
Furthermore, Gus Ipul stressed that the implementation of the ministry’s programmes must always rely on accurate, integrated data. This is a key factor in ensuring that the distribution of aid truly reaches the entitled public. The directive aligns with a mandate from the head of state. “From the beginning, the President entrusted us to ensure that the Ministry of Social Affairs starts with accurate data, data that is accountable, and data that corresponds to reality,” Gus Ipul said. Valid field data is crucial to prevent leakages in social protection funds, and this policy is expected to effectively address inequality.
Beyond data accuracy, the former Deputy Governor of East Java also highlighted the importance of community empowerment programmes. He cautioned that social assistance should not create prolonged dependency among beneficiary families, who must be encouraged to become economically self-reliant. “Social assistance must be followed up with graduation, because assistance is temporary, but empowerment lasts forever,” he said.
On the subject of integrity, Gus Ipul delivered a firm message regarding the prevention of corruption. All officials are strictly prohibited from receiving any gifts outside of their official entitlements. “We accept what is our right and avoid what is not. This is a commitment, not mere lip service,” he asserted. He also encouraged open communication to maintain a clean and transparent work environment, allowing staff to report any irregularities directly, in writing, or even via WhatsApp. Leadership does not want staff to turn a blind eye to procedural violations. “If you see something wrong, if you see a deviation, do not stay silent,” he said. The dark bureaucratic past must be left behind to build a cleaner institutional image. “Let there be no more involvement in corruption within the Ministry of Social Affairs. No more. Once again, no more playing around. No one should try anything,” Gus Ipul warned firmly. He concluded his directives by instilling a spirit of flawless service, hoping the slogan “Ministry of Social Affairs: efficient, great service, without corruption” would take root in every staff member’s daily routine. The inauguration ceremony began with the reading of the appointment decree, followed by the oath of office, the reading of the Integrity Pact, the signing of official reports, a speech, and a closing prayer.
