Gus Ipul States NU Congress Ran Orderly, No Unauthorised Participants

The Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress, Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, stated that the implementation of the Congress was completed successfully.

Gus Ipul highlighted, among other things, that there were no unauthorised participants (susupan) in this Congress.

“The implementation of this congress was orderly and in accordance with existing regulations. There were no unauthorised participants,” said Gus Ipad during a press conference at the PBNU Office, Jakarta, on Thursday (3/9).

Gus Ipul explained that participation in the Congress was processed orderly and in stages, starting from the issuance of decrees, the provisional participant list, to the final participant list.

He noted that the management of the Congress was technology-based, utilising chips and artificial intelligence.

Gus Ipul also expressed his gratitude to all the committee members involved in ensuring the success of the Congress, which took place at the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Tambakberas.

The 35th NU Congress was held from 27 to 31 August 2026. One of the key decisions made during this Congress was the change in the top leadership of PBNU.

KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, also known as Gus Kikin, was elected as the General Chairman of PBNU for the 2026-2031 term, while Miftahul Achyar was appointed as the Rais Aam for the same period.

Gus Kikin was selected through the Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA) process after receiving written endorsement from the elected Rais Aam and securing the highest number of votes from the delegates, with 472 votes, surpassing four other candidates during the 5th Plenary Session of the 35th NU Congress.

The decision regarding Gus Kikin’s election was announced directly by AHWA member KH Anwar Iskandar, alongside senior clerics from the council.

Gus Kikin is the caretaker of the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, entrusted to continue the struggle of KH Salahuddin Wahid, also known as Gus Sholah, who passed away in 2020.
