Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) attended a limited meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (28/9). The meeting discussed BPJS Kesehatan membership and data transformation.

Gus Ipul stated that this limited meeting was held to deepen the evaluation and improvement of BPJS Kesehatan membership at the field level.

“This meeting is about BPJS Kesehatan membership. We certainly want to obtain the President’s direction regarding various issues we have found in the field, especially following this data transformation,” Gus Ipul said in a written statement on Tuesday (29/9/202<0xA0>6).

Gus Ipul noted that the updating of the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) is being continuously carried out to ensure that the distribution of social assistance, including BPJS Kesehatan subsidies for premium recipients (PBI), is accurately targeted.

“We know that since early 2025, specifically February, following Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2025, we have implemented single data, and we need to continuously update it,” he added.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara expressed hope that through the implementation of DTSEN, the recipients of BPJS Kesehatan premium subsidies would become more precisely targeted to those in need.

“We are encouraging the collection of BPJS premiums to improve. The accuracy of premium subsidy recipients should also improve in accordance with the DTSEN data,” said Suahasil.

Suahasil explained that BPJS Kesehatan requires financial strengthening to ensure that claims from hospitals can be fulfilled. Therefore, the government is providing an additional budget of Rp20 trillion for health insurance within the 2026 State Budget, which will be disbursed this October and November.

“This is on top of the budget used to pay for 96.8 million premium subsidy recipients. The budget for these recipients is approximately Rp47 trillion. Meanwhile, the additional Rp20 trillion will be disbursed soon to support BPJS finances,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the President Director of BPJS Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito, reported that to date, BPJS Kesehatan has collected Rp118 trillion in premiums, while the benefits paid out amount to Rp132 trillion.

“Therefore, there is a cash flow gap for us to continue paying for the healthcare services provided by our colleagues in health facilities. We are grateful to the President, the Government, and the Minister for the Rp20 trillion fund injection; Rp10 trillion will be disbursed this month, and Rp10 trillion in November,” said Prihati.

Prihati explained that the meeting also discussed several other matters regarding the improvement of BPJS Kesehatan services, such as the importance of mutual cooperation in independent participant premiums, medical inflation, population growth, and value-based services.

“Moving forward, we will implement value-based care, which is our promise to improve the quality of services to participants in a way that is appropriate and accurately targeted,” he concluded.

For information, the meeting was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara, and President Director of BPJS Kesehatan Prihati Pujowaskito.
