Gus Ipul: Prabowo to Attend Closing of NU National Conference

The Chair of the 2026 Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) National Conference of Religious Scholars and Grand Conference Organising Committee, Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, has confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the NU National Conference in Bangkalan, East Java. The confirmation was delivered by Gus Ipul during an inspection of the closing ceremony venue at the Syaichona Moh. Cholil Islamic College campus on Friday, 19 June 2026. During the visit, Gus Ipul examined the readiness of the event area, from the tents and guest arrival routes to the security points to be used during the closing ceremony. According to him, all preparations must be carried out meticulously because the closing of the NU National Conference is planned to be attended directly by President Prabowo. “We want to ensure every point is ready. Starting from the event location, the President’s arrival flow, the flow for invited guests, security, to participant services. Everything must be well organised,” said Gus Ipul in a written statement on Saturday, 20 June 2026. During the inspection, Gus Ipul was accompanied by Regent Lukman Hakim, Bangkalan Police Chief AKBP Wibowo, the Head of the Syaichona Moh. Cholil Islamic Boarding School RKH Muhammad Nasih Aschal, and representatives of NU branch administrators from across Madura. After inspecting the location, Gus Ipul continued with a coordination meeting at the Bangkalan Regency Pendopo with elements of the local government, security forces, and NU administrators. The meeting discussed in detail the scenario for welcoming President Prabowo, including arrangements for VVIP and VIP guests, participant organisation, road access, area security, and the readiness of supporting facilities around the event location. Gus Ipul emphasised that cross-party coordination is a crucial factor in ensuring the closing of the NU National Conference proceeds in an orderly and smooth manner. “This is not just about the technical aspects of the event, but also about showing respect to the kiai, the participants, the guests, and of course to the President whom we have invited to attend the closing. Therefore, everything must be prepared as well as possible,” he stated. He also expressed appreciation to the Bangkalan Regency Government, security forces, the management of the Syaichona Moh. Cholil Islamic Boarding School, the Ministry of Public Works, and the NU ranks in Madura who have supported the preparations for the activity. According to Gus Ipul, Bangkalan holds an important position in NU’s history, which is why it was chosen as the location for this year’s National Conference closing. “Bangkalan is a very important place for NU. That is why we want the closing of the National Conference here to be a good, orderly moment that brings blessings,” he said.
