Gus Dur's objectivity

The raging rallies for and against President Abdurrahman "Gus
Dur" Wahid launched by different groups with different themes and
manners have proven that Gus Dur's current position is like "a
statue in a glass box". People's opinion of him will depend on
the side from which the view is taken.

Only God the Creator can view Gus Dur in his entirety
objectively. This does no mean, however, that the Indonesian
people cannot assess him objectively. They can, but a process is
required. Despite the subjective means used by many of his
opponents all this time, Gus Dur persistently sticks to his
stance. Do not expect that he would be overwhelmed by the
tumultuous rallies.

In order to communicate to and touch Gus Dur's conscience and
value him objectively to create harmonious relationship between
all elements in the country, "love" is needed. All components in
this country should be patient, peaceful, generous, self-
controlled, modest, good natured, serene and calm and being
transparent.
