Gus Dur's administration

We have been under President Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid's
administration for one year or so. However, many circles have
viewed that the government has failed to comply with the peoples'
aspirations.

During his one year in office the President has reshuffled his
cabinet three times. According to Speaker of the House of
Representatives Akbar Tandjung, the President's actions have
disturbed national stability and the performance of cabinet
ministers. Akbar added that the cabinet reshuffles are an
indication that Gus Dur was not fully competent in forming his
original cabinet.

The cabinet member from the Indonesian Democratic Party of
Struggle, Didi Supriyanto, is also of the opinion that the
reshuffles have not been effective in finding solutions to the
various problems facing the nation.

Who is to blame? Non other than President Abdurrahman himself.
What then should we do about it?

Many have felt that the President's actions have been
spontaneous, which were often controversial in nature and a cause
confusion in the community. There was even an impression that the
President is engaged in trial and error techniques. This is
obvious given the fact that not a single policy taken so far by
the government has succeeded in improving the bad condition of
the state.
