Gus Dur ready for questioning
SURAKARTA, Central Java: Chairman of the powerful Moslem
organization Nahdlatul Ulama Abdurrahman Wahid said Saturday he
was ready to be questioned by police for allegedly slandering his
political foe.
Gus Dur, as Abdurrahman is better known, is facing police
investigation for accusing Abu Hasan -- his contender in last
December's NU chairmanship election -- of getting US$18 million
in kickbacks from a seaport project in Jakarta.
Abu Hasan filed a complaint against Gus Dur over his remarks
at the national police headquarters earlier this year.
"What do you think I have done wrong? I'm always ready to face
questioning," he was quoted by Antara as saying.
The case came up again last week when Jakarta high court
chairman Soeyoto returned Abu's lawsuit dossier to the police
because it was incomplete. He suggested that the police re-
investigate Gus Dur. (pan)
