Guruh to stage his dance with new twist

JAKARTA (JP): With his new dance troupe Rumpun Kemilau, noted choreographer Guruh Soekarnoputra will stage a number of new works which blend his famed dynamic creations with oriental nuances.

The works, which are intended to introduce the choreographer to a larger audience, will be presented on Sept. 14 and Sept. 15 at the Hailai International Executive Club in North Jakarta.

Guruh is scheduled to present his new works in seven sequences, each with a different theme, such as Putra Rimba (Son of the Jungle) and Cendrawasih (Bird of Paradise).

The performances will feature 18 dancers -- 12 women and six men -- and two singers, David and Joice, who will accompany the dancers with songs from eastern Indonesia.

The 45-minute show is scheduled to end with a final sequence featuring an oriental-themed dance and songs.

Popular songs like Muda-Mudi (Young Men and Women), Madu dan Racun (Honey and Poison) and Kopi Dangdut (Dangdut's Coffee) will also highlight the show.

According to Hailai operation manager Soeritano Santoso, the show has been planned for some time and will serve to spotlight Guruh's remarkable talent.

"Guruh tries hard to meet the expectations of viewers through communicative dances," Santoso said in a press release on Friday. (ste)
