Guruh launches antidrug campaign

BOGOR: Entertainer Guruh Soekarno Putra launched an antidrug campaign on Sunday that will be run mainly by former drug users.

The "GSP 18" campaign, according to the younger brother of President Megawati Soekarnoputri, will offer training on the dangers of narcotics and information on how to help drug users kick their habits.

"This campaign had attracted the attention of the United Nations Development Program on how Indonesians deal with drugs," Guruh said.

The launch was highlighted by a march that included over 5,000 participants, mostly school students.

The number of teenagers and young adults using drugs has continued to rise despite the harsh sentences handed out by courts in an effort to fight drug trafficking and use. -- JP
