'Gurita' remains found

BANDA ACEH, Aceh: A team of experts from the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) have reportedly found the remains of the Gurita ferry which sunk on Jan. 19 killing 338 passengers.

Spokesman for the Sabang administration, T. Mohd. Yusuf, told Antara that a special BPPT ship carrying 15 experts had found the remains of the fateful ferry while on a fishing survey in the area.

Yusuf did not say whether the Gurita would be raised noting only that its location would help determine safe ferry lanes to Weh Island.

The overloaded Gurita sank as it was ferrying passengers from Balohan harbor on the mainland to nearby Weh Island. (mds)
