Gunungkidul Regent and Residents Host Group Viewing for Moto3 Rider Veda Ega
Gunungkidul Regent Endah Subekti Kuntariningsih, alongside residents, organised a group viewing event for local Moto3 racer Veda Ega Pratama’s Grand Prix competition. The event took place at Bangsal Sewokoprojo in Wonosari District on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
“Veda is not just an athlete but a symbol of pride who has brought honour to Gunungkidul Regency, the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), and Indonesia on the global stage,” said Endah.
She praised Veda’s determined journey starting training with his father using extremely limited facilities, proving that constraints are no barrier to progress and development.
“The lack of facilities and training resources did not dampen his spirit; the challenges faced were part of the process to elevate Veda to world champion status,” she added.
The regent added that the group viewing event also aims to inspire local youth and athletes to pursue sporting achievements, particularly those currently in selection for the Regional Sports Week (Porda).
“One young person can change the world, and Veda is that person from Gunungkidul Regency,” Endah said.
Veda’s father, Sudarmono, expressed pride in his son’s eighth-place finish, which placed him within the points-scoring top 10.
“I was too nervous to speak, but thank goodness he made the top 10, in the points zone, and is currently ranked fifth in the world,” Sudarmono said.
He hopes Veda will continue to learn and adapt, as this is his first year competing in Moto3 with new bike specifications and rivals.
“He needs more experience,” he added.
