Gunungkidul Regency Government Invites Victims of Inflated Tourism Prices to Report via Social Media
The Department of Tourism, Creative Economy, Youth and Sports (Disparekrafpora) of Gunungkidul Regency has issued regulations to prevent unreasonable pricing or “nuthuk” at tourist attractions. Tourism operators have been instructed to display tariffs, and residents who become victims are welcome to report incidents via Instagram.
Eko Nur Cahyo, Secretary of Disparekrafpora Gunungkidul, stated that this has been socialised to all tourism operators in the regency. He warned against any further instances of inflated pricing at Gunungkidul tourist sites.
“We have already issued a circular to tourism managers and operators not to implement unreasonable or inflated prices during the Lebaran holiday period,” he told journalists in Gunungkidul on Tuesday (17/3/2026).
One approach, according to Eko, is to require all tourism operators and service providers to display their tariffs. This prevents disputes and losses that tourists may experience when visiting tourist attractions in Gunungkidul.
“So tourism managers, shop owners and food business operators must display tariffs that are easily visible to visitors,” he said.
Eko also mentioned that tourists who feel they have been victimised can report incidents via social media. He promised to follow up on reports submitted to Instagram @disparekrafpora_gk.
“If any visitors feel they have been wronged whilst sightseeing in Gunungkidul, they can directly send a direct message to Instagram @disparekrafpora_gk and we will immediately follow up,” he said.
In fact, Eko noted that Disparekrafpora Gunungkidul personnel will conduct monitoring during the Lebaran holiday period. This is so that tourists can immediately report any unpleasant incidents they experience.
“Tourist comfort and safety are the priority. That is why we have already conducted monitoring at various tourist attractions so that this year’s Lebaran holiday is safe and smooth,” he concluded.
