Anticipating hydrometeorological disasters in Gunungkidul Regency, a drought emergency status has been established through Regent’s Decree Number 154/KPTS/2026, effective from 1 June 2026. Clean water aid has also been dispatched to residents in need across the regency. Head of the Gunungkidul Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Purwono, explained that his agency has distributed more than 128 tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 litres of water. “We have allocated a budget for the distribution of clean water totalling 1,150 tanks,” he stated. In addition to aid from the BPBD, most sub-districts in Gunungkidul also have their own budget allocations to provide clean water assistance. Out of the 18 sub-districts in Gunungkidul, 12 have a dedicated budget for water aid. He explained that assistance is provided upon an official request to the BPBD. The Gunungkidul Regency Government has issued Regent’s Decree Number 154/KPTS/2026, which establishes the Drought Hydrometeorological Disaster Emergency Status. This emergency status is in effect for three months, from 1 June 2026 to 31 August 2026.
