The case of Gunungkidul DPRD member Sugito, who was said to have berated a noodle seller over receiving coin change, has ended peacefully. Sugito’s family visited the victim and conveyed an apology.

The younger sibling of Bakmi Mbak Tri owner, Yuli (48), said Sugito’s family came to the stall on Friday (15/8) evening. “So last night (Friday 15/8), Mr Sugito’s family showed good faith by coming to our place,” Yuli said when contacted by detikJogja on Saturday (15/8/2026).

Yuli said the family members who came consisted of Sugito’s wife, son, and son-in-law. During the meeting, Sugito’s family also apologised for the incident Yuli experienced. “They humbly conveyed an apology for the incident that befell us, especially the verbal abuse I experienced. And I personally have actually forgiven them,” she said.

Yuli said from the beginning she had no intention of seeking compensation through her social media post. She hopes the incident can serve as a lesson for public officials and DPRD members not to act arbitrarily towards the public. “So posting on social media was not because we were hoping for compensation, but as a lesson that public officials or DPRD members should not act arbitrarily, do unpleasant things, or verbally abuse anyone,” she said.

“Hopefully this becomes a lesson for everyone that those at the top would not be at the top without people at the bottom like us,” she said.

Yuli stressed that the matter is now considered resolved. She also reiterated that her side did not request or expect any compensation over the incident. “So we consider this case as forgiven and let go. But we emphasise that we did not ask for or expect any compensation,” she said.

Previously, a post claiming a Gunungkidul DPRD member became angry after receiving coin change following a meal of Javanese noodles in Playen went viral on social media. The Instagram account @gunungkidul_viral2 stated the incident occurred at Bakmi Mbak Tri Gading VI stall in Playen, Gunungkidul, on Wednesday (13/8) evening.

“On 13 August 2026, around 8pm WIB, a member of the Gunungkidul DPRD named Sugito ate at our stall ‘Bakmi Mbak Tri Gading VI’ Playen, Gunungkidul. After finishing his meal, because the change was Rp500 coins, he became angry and belittled our small food stall and shouted at my wife who was serving him, saying ‘do you know who I am?’. This behaviour has repeatedly caused a commotion at our stall every time this person stops by. We truly do not accept the belittling and insults we received. We will defend our dignity no matter what, even though we are small people,” the Instagram account wrote.

Yuli confirmed the incident. She said it occurred when Sugito came with a colleague to the Bakmi Mbak Tri stall in Gading 6, Playen. After finishing the meal, he paid for the food. However, Sugito allegedly became angry after receiving change in coins.

“And after the payment was made, we said we did not have Rp1,000 notes for change, and the change happened to be Rp8,000, so I replaced the Rp1,000 with two Rp500 coins,” she said.

Yuli admitted she had apologised when giving the change because the available money was in coins. Yuli said the change was then thrown onto the table. “But the money was eventually thrown onto the table and he said to me, ‘is there no other small change or what, something smaller than this’. Then I said, ‘I apologise, Sir, I already apologised earlier, if you do not want it I will replace it with Rp2,000’,” she said.

Meanwhile, detikJogja has sought confirmation from Sugito regarding the incident. However, Sugito declined to comment. “I cannot give a comment,” Sugito said briefly by phone.
