Police arrested a bird and pedal bicycle thief in Wonosari, Gunungkidul. In his actions, the perpetrator also damaged CCTV to eliminate traces. Examination results revealed the perpetrator is a member of Gunungkidul Satpol PP holding part-time PPPK status.

The suspect, initialled RDS (29) alias Jeje, a resident of Wonosari, Gunungkidul. Jeje is currently detained in the Gunungkidul Police detention room to account for his actions.

Wonosari Police Chief, Kompol Tri Wibawa, said the case disclosure began when a resident of Siraman, Wonosari, became a victim of the theft of a cendet bird along with its cage on Saturday (28/2/2026).

“Besides the cendet bird, the perpetrator also damaged two CCTV units. The total loss is around Rp 2 million,” he stated.

During the investigation, police received another report of a pedal bicycle theft belonging to a Siraman resident on Wednesday (8/4/2026). The bicycle went missing when left in the house garage.

“After investigation, the perpetrator was secured in the afternoon. From his confession, it turned out the perpetrator had also previously stolen a pet bird and damaged CCTV in Siraman,” he said.

In addition to arresting Jeje, police seized evidence including a black CCTV camera cover, CCTV footage, one motorbike unit, two bamboo poles, one wooden pole, one cendet bird, a bird cage, and a pedal bicycle.

“His modus operandi was to act at night and wait for the victim to be off guard. He damaged the CCTV to eliminate traces after stealing the bird,” he said.

Regarding the motive, Tri stated that Jeje wanted to own a pet bird and a bicycle. “The perpetrator’s motive was simply to possess them,” he said.

For his actions, Jeje is charged under Article 477 paragraph (1) letter e of the Criminal Code subsidiary to Article 476 of the Criminal Code and Article 521 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 127 of Law No. 1 of 2023.

“The maximum penalty is seven years in prison,” he said.

Acting Head of Gunungkidul Satpol PP, Hary Sukmono, confirmed that Jeje is indeed a member of Gunungkidul Satpol PP. Hary has also received a notification letter from Gunungkidul Police regarding the case.

“It is true (Jeje is a member of Gunungkidul Satpol PP), he is a part-time PPPK in the Public Order and Tranquillity Sector,” he said.

According to Hary, Gunungkidul Satpol PP has sent a letter to the Regional Personnel, Education, and Training Agency (BKPPD) Gunungkidul for further steps regarding Jeje’s status at Satpol PP.

“After receiving the notification letter from Gunungkidul Police, we forwarded it to BKPPD. BKPPD will decide (whether he will be removed or dismissed),” he concluded.
