Guns, bullets seized in weekend police raid

JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta Police detectives arrested a man for the alleged illegal possession of two guns and 11 bullets on Jl. Daan Mogot in West Jakarta during an early Saturday morning raid, an officer said later on Saturday.

West Jakarta Police chief of detectives Adj. Comr. Syahar Diantono identified the suspect as Nofan, 30, who originally comes from Subang, West Java.

"A Yamaha motorcycle, carrying two people, passed us by on KM 11 of Jl. Daan Mogot at about 4 a.m. on Saturday. The guys on the motorcycle realized that this was a police raid, so they suddenly stopped," Syahar said.

"This caused a motorcycle behind them to screech to a halt, colliding with their motorcycle. The impact caused the two men to fall off.. the one who is at large, threw off a bag he was carrying, and ran away. The motorcycle driver sped off with the motorcycle."

Syahar said that his officers finally caught up with the man (Nofan) on the motorcycle, but the other man remains at large.

"Police checked the bag, and found a .9 millimeter caliber Walther gun, a homemade gun and bullets. We are currently tracking down Nofan's friend," Syahar said. (ylt)
