Gunman Shot Near White House Dies
Washington — The United States Secret Service has confirmed that the suspected gunman who fired shots near the White House complex in Washington DC on Saturday has been killed.
In its statement, the agency said the shooting occurred after 6 p.m. local time (Sunday 05:00 WIB) near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW outside the White House complex.
The gunman “drew a weapon from his bag and began firing” at the location.
“Secret Service police returned fire, striking the suspect who was then evacuated to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” said the US Secret Service.
“In the shooting, a bystander who was passing by was also struck by gunfire,” according to the agency, whilst confirming that no officers were injured.
The condition of the second victim remains unknown.
Further, ABC News, citing White House officials, reported that during the shooting, Trump was in the Oval Office with several aides, including Steven Cheung, Natalie Harp, and Margo Martin.
The shooting incident is under investigation, said the US Secret Service.
