Gunmaker arrested

PURWAKARTA, West Java: Local police arrested a gunmaker on Wednesday, seizing two firearms and a considerable amount of ammunition from his hut in Sawahkulon village in the regency.

Purwakarta Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Elan Subilan said the suspect, identified as Arp, 35, was arrested after police conducted a raid in the village.

He said that, previously, police had arrested another gun maker, identifies as Us, and seized three guns ready for sale to pig hunters in the regency.

Elan said that Arp admitted to producing the guns for a man claiming to be a journalist, who is still at large, at a price of Rp 1 million per unit.

"He also admitted that the hut he was staying in was rented from a villager," Elan said, adding that local police would intensify an operation to uncover illegal guns in an effort to reduce violent robberies and other crimes in the regency. --Antara
