Gunasegaran wins Taman Dayu Open

JAKARTA: Gunasegaran of Malaysia defended his championship title at the Taman Dayu-Sonni Putri Open golf tournament in Pandaan, East Java, after he carded six-under-par 66 in the final day on Friday.

Gunasegaran scored a total of eight-under-par 280 (69-75-70- 66) in four days of the tournament to win the top cash prize of Rp 34 million, out of the total Rp 200 million (US$21,600) up for grabs.

His 66 turned out to be a new course record, a feat that entitled him an extra Rp 10 million provided by a sponsor.

"Today seems a lucky day for me. My putting, driving and second tries all worked well," Gunasegaran, who hails from Selangor, said in a release.

Teammate Mohammad Shaaban Hussin, who booked an overall three- under-par 285, finished in second place followed by the Indonesian duo of Sukamdi and Ilyasak, who tied in third for a 2- over-par 290. --JP
