Gun-wielding motorcycle thief brandishes pistol at residents in Cikande; suspects arrested
The theft occurred on Friday 15 May at around 10:25 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) in front of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Cikande office. The act was captured on CCTV and went viral on social media.
Two people riding a single motorcycle entered the shop-house complex parking area. One of the suspects parked, then stole the motorcycle using a T-shaped key. A resident in front of the shop-house attempted to intervene, but the assailant pointed a pistol at him. When the resident stepped back, the suspect fled with the motorcycle.
Serang Police Chief AKBP Andri Kurniawan said the victim reported the incident to the Cikande Police, and officers launched an investigation and pursued the two perpetrators.
Eventually, the Serang Police Resmob Team arrested EDN on Monday 18 May 2026 at around 11:00 WIB. The suspect was detained in the parking area of the Swiss-Belinn Cikande Hotel.
“After the suspect was secured, the Serang City Police Resmob team immediately conducted a search and secured the evidence — the motorcycles believed to have been used in the crime,” Andri said. Police then questioned EDN and obtained information on the whereabouts of suspect JA in Kabupaten Tangerang.
“Suspect JA was detained in front of an apartment in Desa Binong, Karawaci, Kabupaten Tangerang, at 15:00 WIB,” he said.
In this case, police seized two motorcycles used by the suspects and one motorcycle believed to be the stolen vehicle. They also recovered other evidence such as the T-shaped key and clothing worn by the culprits when stealing in Cikande.
Meanwhile, Serang Police Criminal Investigation Unit head AKP Andi Kurniady ES said officers had not yet found the pistol used by the suspects. They discarded the weapon when they fled to Lampung Province.
“Discarded in East Lampung. They briefly fled there, but returned to Serang to carry out more acts,” he said.
