Gumilir Station Serves 62,804 Passengers from January–May 2026, Growing by 52.79 Per Cent
Gumilir Station recorded significant passenger growth between January and May 2026. The total number of passengers served reached 62,804, representing a 52.79 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 41,104 passengers.
This growth was supported by a 51.40 per cent increase in departing passengers, rising from 21,706 passengers in January–May 2025 to 32,863 passengers in January–May 2026. Meanwhile, arriving passengers increased by 54.35 per cent, from 19,398 to 29,941.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the growth exceeding 50 per cent in both indicators demonstrates the strengthening role of Gumilir Station in supporting the mobility of the community in the North Cilacap area and its surroundings.
“This growth shows that the public is increasingly utilising trains as a safe, comfortable, and efficient transport choice. Gumilir Station has now become an important access point for residents living in the northern area of Cilacap Regency to reach various cities on Java Island,” said Anne.
The increase in passenger volume coincides with the growing economic and demographic activities in Cilacap Regency. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BICS) for Cilacap Regency in 2025, the population reached 2,007,829 by mid-2024. With an area of approximately 2,249 square kilometres, Cilacap is the largest regency in Central Java and one of the primary economic hubs in the southern region of Java.
Economically, the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of Cilacap Regency at current prices in 2024 reached approximately Rp151.5 trillion, making it one of the regions with the largest economic activity in Central Java. Manufacturing, trade, services, energy, ports, and logistics are the main drivers of the regional economy.
These characteristics have led to a continuous increase in the community’s mobility needs. North Cilacap, where Gumilir Station is located, is a developing area featuring educational centres, residential areas, commercial activities, and several industrial zones that serve as daily destinations.
In this context, Gumilir Station plays a vital role as a mobility link. The station, situated at an elevation of +7 metres and part of the Purwokerto Operational Region 5, was reactivated on 1 April 2022 after approximately seven years of inactivity.
Since resuming operations, Gumilir Station has provided easier travel access for residents of Gumilir, Tritih Kulon, Karangtalun, and surrounding areas. The station’s presence means residents no longer need to travel longer distances to other stations to use train services.
Currently, Gumilir Station serves several train routes connecting Cilacap to various activity centres on Java Island, including the Purwojaya train (Gambir–Cilacap), the Wijayakusuma train (Ketapang–Cilacap), and the Joglosemarkerto train, which connects Cilacap to Yogyakarta, Solo, Semarang, Purwokerto, Tegal, and other cities.
This connectivity provides widespread benefits. Students gain easier access to educational cities, workers can travel more efficiently to economic centres, and business owners benefit from easier access to various business destinations. The general public also gains transport options that support social and tourism activities.
Data showing passenger growth of over 50 per cent indicates that Gumilir Station’s function is expanding as a regional mobility node. The increase in departing passengers reflects rising travel activity from Cilacap to various destinations, while the increase in arriving passengers shows more people visiting Cilacap Regency for various purposes.
“Railways play an important role in strengthening inter-regional connectivity and supporting community economic activities. KAI will continue to provide services that prioritise safety, security, comfort, and punctuality, so that the benefits of rail transport can be felt more widely by the community,” Anne concluded.
