Gulkarmat estimates losses from Pademangan house fire at Rp1 billion
The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) estimates that losses from a fire at a multi-storey house on Jalan Pademangan II, Pademangan District, North Jakarta, on Friday evening reached Rp1 billion. “We estimate the losses from the fire in one house unit covering 168 square metres at Rp1 billion,” said Gatot Sulaeman, Head of Operations at North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Gulkarmat, in Jakarta on Friday. Gatot stated that the fire was suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. There were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. According to witness accounts, the fire was first seen emerging from inside the house. Residents who noticed the incident immediately contacted the fire brigade. “This house was occupied by two families with six people. All, thank God, are safe,” he said. Gulkarmat deployed 14 fire engines and 80 personnel to extinguish the blaze that gutted the building. “The extinguishing operation began at 19.17 WIB and was declared complete at 21.13 WIB,” Gatot said. He urged the public to regularly check electrical installations in their homes and to promptly replace old or damaged wiring. Additionally, residents are advised to keep portable fire extinguishers (APAR) at home to speed up handling in the event of a fire. “This is a preventive effort to stop fires from occurring,” he said.
