Gulf marks 40th anniversary in Natuna
JAKARTA: Gulf Indonesia Resources marked its 40th year of
operations in the Natuna islands by donating earlier this month
Rp 60 million of medical equipment and scholarships to residents
of Terempa, a subdistrict in the islands.
The company's government and public relations coordinator,
Cino Calfino, said here last Saturday that the assistance was
part of its community development program in the islands, where
it has been exploring and drilling for oil and gas for 40 years.
He said the donation was handed over by the company's vice
president, John K. Wearing, in Terempa subdistrict, which
residents hope will become part of the proposed Riau Islands
province.
"We'll continue to pursue the community development program as
part of our efforts to empower the local people," Cino Caqlfino
said, adding that his company has helped locals improve their
economy and has hired many of them as employees.
Together with its partners, Gulf Indonesia Resources, a
Canadian company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, plans to
invest US$200 million per year over the next several years to
explore and develop new oil and gas fields in Indonesia. --JP
