Istanbul (ANTARA) - The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stated on Sunday (1 March) that it is considering responses to missile and drone attacks from Iran that targeted several of its member states.

The GCC warned that the bloc would take all necessary measures to protect the security and stability of their region.

In a statement issued following an emergency ministerial meeting conducted virtually, the council condemned the attacks on the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait, describing them as violations of sovereignty and international law.

The GCC underscored that the security of member states is inseparable, and stressed that any attack against one country constitutes a direct threat to all countries based on their mutual defence agreement.

The GCC affirmed that member states retain the right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and called for an immediate cessation of the attacks, whilst urging the UN Security Council to take firm action to prevent further escalation.
