Gulbencal Task Force deploys 100 personnel to tackle Tukka River flood disaster
Central Tapanuli (ANTARA) — The Gulbencal Task Force of TNI Infantry Battalion TP 908 Gaja Dombak deployed approximately 100 personnel on Sunday to address flooding that occurred in Hutanabolon Village, Tukka District, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, resulting from a breach in the Tukka River embankment.
“We have 180 personnel in total, with 100 from the Combined Infantry Battalion 908 Gaja Dombak deploying directly,” said Lieutenant Infanteri R Sinaga, Commander of the Gulbencal Task Force TNI Infantry TP 908 GD, in an interview on Sunday.
The deployed personnel were specifically tasked with assisting affected residents. Military personnel were observed efficiently helping community members in need reach safe locations.
The majority of those evacuated were elderly residents and children.
According to Sinaga, the secondary flooding resulting from the breach in the Tukka River embankment remains relatively stable. Consequently, his unit brought only two vehicles available for use by affected residents.
“For now, we’ve provided limited resources because the situation remains relatively stable, safe and under control. Personnel and vehicles for residents in need are stationed at each coordination post, with two units available,” he added.
According to local residents, river waters began overflowing at 15:00 (3 p.m.) local time. Unusually high rainfall rendered the Tukka River embankment incapable of withstanding the substantial discharge volume.
