Posyandu is not merely a place for weighing or immunisation. It is the foundation of Indonesian human life, where superior generations are shaped from the first day of life.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Posyandu is akin to the foundation in national health construction. In every unit, basic health services are present as supporting pillars. Regular monitoring becomes a functional detection instrument to guide the growth and development of the nation’s future generations.

Every 29 April, the national calendar marks a major event, namely the commemoration of National Posyandu Day. This moment serves as a reminder to strengthen the role of Posyandu as a community-based health service unit.

Posyandu acts as the frontline in supporting community health services, particularly in promotional and preventive efforts.

Posyandu was first inaugurated nationally on 29 April 1985 as part of community empowerment initiatives in health.

According to Ministry of Health data, the number of Posyandu in Indonesia in 2023 was recorded at 304,263, spread across all regions.

Assistant Deputy for Nutrition Improvement and Stunting Prevention of the Ministry of Coordinating Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK), Jelsi Natalia Marampa, stated that Posyandu has a very strategic role in creating superior generations towards Golden Indonesia 2045.

Its focus is to ensure every family receives continuous access to nutrition and basic health monitoring, through services covering the entire life cycle, from pregnant mothers, breastfeeding mothers, infants, toddlers, preschool children, school-age children, adolescents, to adults and the elderly.

Through these services, Posyandu contributes to ensuring nutritional fulfilment, growth and development monitoring, health quality improvement, and early prevention of various health risks. These efforts form an important foundation in building healthy, intelligent, productive, and competitive generations.

The success of this programme is inseparable from the significant role of the cadres who act as the driving force in the field. With high dedication, the cadres ensure every toddler’s growth is monitored and every mother receives continuous health education.

Kemenko PMK continues to encourage cross-sectoral synergies and policy strengthening, given the strategic role of Posyandu in building the foundation of quality human resources for the pillars of Golden Indonesia 2045.
