Guidelines for National Awakening Day 2026: Theme, Logo, and Ceremony Arrangements
National Awakening Day (Harkitnas) is one of Indonesia’s national moments commemorated annually. The day serves as a reminder of the resurgence of unity, nationalism, and the struggle for independence and national progress.
Because of its significance, Harkitnas is routinely commemorated with various activities across government agencies, schools, and community organisations. A flag-raising ceremony is a standard agenda to honour the values of struggle and the spirit of national awakening.
As in previous years, the government through the Ministry of Communications and Digital RI (Komdigi) has published official guidelines for Harkitnas 2026, which serve as a reference for government agencies, schools, and community organisations. The guidelines contain important information, from the theme for Harkitnas 2026, to the official logo used during the commemorations, and the arrangement of the flag ceremony.

History of National Awakening Day
National Awakening Day, observed every 20 May, marks a pivotal moment in the birth of Boedi Oetomo in 1908. The event is recorded in history as the start of the Indonesian nation’s consciousness, when educated indigenous Indonesians began to marshal strength through thought and organisation. At that time, geographic boundaries often weakened the struggle. The spirit of 1908 signified a shift in the nation’s struggle—from physical resistance to intellectual and diplomatic efforts—to realise a sovereign and dignified nation.
Meaning of National Awakening Day
Philosophically, Harkitnas is not merely a historical commemoration but a dynamic process that continues to adapt to the times without sacrificing national identity. Awakening is understood as the courage to rise from backwardness and ignorance.
In today’s context, the philosophy of Harkitnas emphasises the importance of strategic autonomy and unity. In line with the founders’ aspirations, national progress depends not on external parties but on the people’s resolve to unite for a common goal.
Theme of National Awakening Day 2026
For the 118th anniversary in 2026, the government has adopted the theme “Protect the Nation’s Youth for the Sovereignty of the State”. The theme is intended to inspire renewed spirit and strength to rise together as Indonesia looks to a stronger future.

The Harkitnas 2026 logo is designed as a symbol of the nation’s awakening spirit, drawing on the past for inspiration while also demonstrating resolve to look toward a stronger, more autonomous, and competitive Indonesia. The logo represents the collective spirit of all elements of the nation to move forward together in facing contemporary challenges, especially in realising sovereignty in the digital information technology sector as a foundational element of national resilience. In addition, the 118-year National Awakening logo reflects the values of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and the public’s optimism in building a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous Indonesia.

Ceremony Arrangements for National Awakening Day 2026
The Harkitnas 2026 ceremony will be held simultaneously on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The following are the ceremony order for the Harkitnas 2026 as set out in the official Komdigi guidelines:
Raising the Red and White Flag
Singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya
Moment of silence
Reading the Pancasila text
Reading the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution
Reading the speech by the Minister of Communications and Digital for the 118th National Awakening Day, delivered by the ceremony inspector
Singing the patriotic songs, namely “Bagimu Negeri” and “Satu Nusa Satu Bangsa”
Reading the prayer in accordance with the official Harkitnas 2026 guidelines.
Text of the National Awakening Day 2026 prayer
In addition to the ceremony arrangement, the Harkitnas 2026 guidelines include the prayer text to be recited during the event. The prayer is as follows:
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.
Alhamdulillahirabbil ’alamin. Allahumma shalli ’ala sayyidina Muhammad wa ’ala ali sayyidina Muhammad.
Ya Allah, Ya Tuhan kami, segala puji hanya bagi-Mu yang telah melimpahkan nikmat dan karunia yang tak pernah terputus. Hanya kepada-Mu kami menyembah dan hanya kepada-Mu kami memohon pertolongan.
Ya Allah Yang Maha Pengasih lagi Maha Penyayang, berkat izin-Mu kami dapat melaksanakan upacara Hari Kebangkitan Nasional ke-118 Tahun 2026 dengan penuh semangat dan khidmat.
Ya Allah, bimbinglah kami menjadi pribadi yang selalu bersyukur, menghargai jasa para pahlawan, serta bersemangat untuk terus berkontribusi demi kejayaan bangsa dan negara ini. Satukanlah kami di bawah Bendera Merah Putih, serta berikan kami kekuatan untuk senantiasa saling mendukung dalam memajukan bangsa agar Indonesia menjadi negara yang lebih adil, makmur, dan sejahtera.
Ya Allah Yang Maha Mengetahui, tuntunlah kami di jalan kebenaran dan jauhkan kami dari segala keburukan. Lindungilah kami agar tidak mudah terhasut dan tidak mudah diadu domba sehingga bangsa Indonesia tidak terpecah belah.
Ya Rabb, Engkau telah menganugerahkan kemerdekaan kepada bangsa ini melalui pengorbanan para pahlawan. Kami memohon, ampunilah dosa-dosa para pahlawan kami, limpahkan kasih sayang-Mu, dan tempatkan para pejuang Tanah Air yang telah mendahului kami di sisi-Mu.
Rabbana atina fiddunya hasanah wa fil akhirati hasanah waqina ’adzabannar.
