JAKARTA – Returnees planning to use the functional Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) II South toll road section during the 2026 Eid return traffic should pay attention to the entry points. This alternative route is indeed being prepared to help alleviate congestion towards Jakarta, but it cannot yet be accessed directly from arterial roads. The President Director of PT Jasamarga Japek Selatan, Charles Lendra, emphasised that access to this functional toll road is currently still limited. This means that drivers wishing to use this route must first enter through the existing toll network, one of which is via the Sadang Toll Road, before being directed to Japek II South. This scheme is implemented to maintain safety and smooth traffic flow on the route that still holds functional status. The opening of the route will adjust to on-site traffic conditions, particularly at critical points like Cikampek Utama. Furthermore, Charles explained that there are certain parameters that serve as benchmarks for opening this functional route. “Usually, if there is congestion at Cikampek Utama or the queue at Kalitama reaches around 500 metres, then this toll road will be opened,” said Charles. In addition, vehicle speed indicators and the volume-to-capacity ratio (V/C ratio) are also important considerations. “There are two main parameters, namely the length of the queue and vehicle speed. If the speed has dropped to 30-40 km/h or the volume-to-capacity ratio (V/C ratio) reaches around 0.7-0.8, then it is usually opened immediately,” he stated. With this scheme, the functional Japek II South toll road is expected to be able to alleviate return traffic congestion, particularly for vehicles heading to Jakarta and its supporting regions. However, road users are still urged to follow the directions of the officers as well as the available signs to ensure the journey remains safe and smooth.
