Guess What? Marissa haque

Actress and founder of the local production house PT Rana Artha Mulia, Marissa Haque, says she has more to celebrate than the debut of her teleserial production, Antara Jakarta Dan Perth (Between Jakarta and Perth), to be broadcast on private TV station RCTI in the middle of next month.

She joined several parents of children enrolled in a prestigious school in Bintaro, Tangerang, in a protest against the school's policy of charging fees at the market rate for the U.S. dollar.

And they got their way when the school backtracked on its decision.

"I had to sell a car to get both daughters -- aged 9 and 10 respectively -- into the school. Now, we are paying school fees at Rp 5,000 per dollar," Marissa said.

"We could not afford to pay if it (the school) was to go by the market rate."

The registration fee per child is Rp 20 million, plus Rp 1.4 million monthly in tuition.

She said the school should understand the "plight" of ordinary parents trying to survive the crisis, even if "grandchildren of the President or tycoons study there ..."

She added that neither "the President's children nor tycoons were among those who protested against the fee dilemma". (02)
