Philippine President Joseph Estrada said Wednesday his new
year's resolution would be to quit smoking.

"Maybe this coming year I'll be less pressured ... because the
first time when I assumed office I was so much pressured by the
media," Estrada told reporters who asked him about his resolution
for 1999.

"Now it's becoming less so I might be able to stop smoking,"
he said.

Estrada, a former movie actor, had earlier promised to give up
cigarettes after assuming office in June, but the pressure of the
presidency kept him stuck to the habit. (AFP)
