Guess What? Hughes

Rumor had it that MC and TV talk show host Hughes was turning her back on her career and heading off to the Freeport compound in Irian Jaya to join her new husband.

Forsaking all for love? It sounds romantic, but the story was all wrong.

"I'm going to Freeport only for a week. I will visit my husband and at the same time, I have a job as an MC there in an Independence Day commemoration with singers Iis Dahlia and Yuni Shara," she said with a laugh.

"I won't leave my entertainment world which I reached through hard work. Besides, if I move to Freeport, what will I do there?"

But Hughes has left her Saturday night talk show Angin Malam on RCTI. As well as reaching the end of her 52-episode contract, Hughes said her reasons for giving up the show included security fears because she left for home at 2 a.m., and her wish to fall pregnant as soon as possible.

She will be replaced by Peggy Melati Sukma starting on Aug. 18.

Peggy was selected by RCTI from candidates including Indy Barens, entertainer Tika Panggabean, actress-producer Debby Sahertian and actress Desy Ratnasari. (Primastuti Handayani)
