"I feel so nervous. It's just like waiting for a new baby to be born," said Hana Hoed.

The new-awaited baby is a five-star hotel The Regent Jakarta, which is expected to start operation next month, added Hana, the hotel's public relations and media coordinator.

The construction of the Regent Jakarta was halted for several years due to financial constraints and internal problems among the investors. The hotel is developed by PT Permadani Khatulistiwa, the Kodel business group and will be managed by the Four Seasons and Regent Hotel chain.

"Many people often thought it was going to be a hospital, office building and even a jail. I have had to explain it to the public many times," she said.

Located in Jakarta's golden triangle, bordering Jl.H.R. Rasuna Said (Kuningan) and Jl. Sudirman, the 17-story hotel is dominated by gray granite as well as pastel and natural colors.

The hotel building, designed by the famous San Francisco-based architectural firm Skidmore, Owing & Merill, is inspired by the famous Al-Hambra Palace in Spain.

"When it is completed, the hotel will have a striking appearance. The combination of international and traditional elements," Hana explained.

Hana, who has held the same position at the Borobudur Inter- Continental Hotel, added "It is my job to promote the coming baby." (raw)
