Guards grilled in burglary case

JAKARTA: Central Jakarta police questioned on Tuesday three witnesses about the burglary of a house belonging to Maj. Gen. Herry Cahyadi on Jl. Tanah Tinggi Barat.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Tjiptono said that the three worked as security guards for the Udayana military command chief overseeing Bali, East and West Nusa Tenggara.

Tjiptono did not elaborate the results of the questioning, but revealed that their statements would be cross-checked with police findings in the general's house after the burglary on Monday.

According to Tjiptono, police found a chisel that was presumed to have been used to open windows and doors, as well as a cupboard where lost property was kept.

The general suffered losses totaling Rp 1 billion (US$104,000), comprising cash, 26 sets of gold jewelry, several gold bars, eight Rolex watches, and four rings. -- JP
