Guardrails Installed at Three Points on Kaliasem-Tigawasa Route to Reduce Accident Risks
The Buleleng Regency Transportation Agency (Dishub) has installed guardrails, or road safety barriers, along the accident-prone Kaliasem-Tigawasa route. The installation spans 212 metres and is supported by funding from the Ministry of Transportation.
The Head of Dishub Buleleng, Gede Gunawan Adnyana Putra, stated that the project is a Technical Assistance (Bantek) programme from the central government through the Land Transportation Management Agency (BPTD).
“The installation has been carried out at three locations along the Kaliasem-Tigawasa route, spanning 212 metres. This comes from Bantek funding from the Ministry of Transportation, amounting to over Rp658 million,” said Gunawan on Thursday (23/4/2026).
According to him, the guardrails are expected to improve safety for road users, particularly on routes with a high risk of accidents.
“With these guardrails, hopefully, they can save lives in the event of traffic accidents, especially those caused by vehicles going out of control on that route,” he said.
Gunawan noted that the Kaliasem-Tigawasa route was prioritised because it falls into the high-accident-risk category. The locations were determined based on coordination with the Traffic Unit (Satlantas) and accident data.
“From the coordination results, this route has the most out-of-control accidents, making it a priority for handling,” he explained.
He also revealed that the total need for guardrail installation in the area exceeds 600 metres. However, only 212 metres have been realised so far.
“The rest will be proposed again in 2027. We have already received the green light from the Ministry of Transportation; it’s just a matter of resubmitting the proposal,” he said.
In addition to Kaliasem-Tigawasa, Dishub Buleleng is targeting guardrail installations at other high-risk points, such as the Munduk and Pedawa areas.
“Other areas that are quite vulnerable, like in Munduk and Pedawa, will also be proposed for similar assistance,” he added.
Gunawan further explained that limited local budget is the reason for seeking assistance from the central government.
“For traffic safety, it is indeed very necessary, but due to limited regional budget, we request it from the centre. Fortunately, the central government appreciates it,” he concluded.
