Guard against Indian crooks

Guard against Indian crooks

I read with interest the letter from Mr. Lalu Mara Satria
Wangsa (The Jakarta Post, March 29, 1995), regarding two men,
claiming to be from India, who robbed them of 3.5 million rupiah.
My house was robbed by two Indians when my wife and I were away
in India by using a similar ruse with our maid.

With due apologies, the hypnotism theory is rubbish. I find
most Indonesians trusting and polite and a gang of Indian crooks
is taking full advantage of this. These unsavory elements are
obviously long term residents in this country. They know the
language well and operate as professional crooks.

I am embarrassed that, as an Indian guest in this country,
these crooks are giving the community a bad name. I would
recommend that the full details of any such incident is reported
to the nearest police station and I do hope these fellows are
caught and thrown into jail.

Finally, a warning to my Indonesian friends. Hypnotism is all
rubbish and I have never heard of any such thing in India. These
fellows are plain confidence tricksters and people should be on
guard any time suspicious looking Indians come calling with a
cock-and-bull story!
